Download and read online Fundamentals of Clinical Trials in PDF and EPUB This is the fifth edition of a very successful textbook on clinical trials methodology, written by recognized leaders who have long and extensive experience in all areas of clinical trials. The three authors of the first four editions have been joined by two others who add great expertise. A chapter on regulatory issues has been included and the chapter on data monitoring has been split into two and expanded. Many contemporary clinical trial examples have been added. There is much new material on adverse events, adherence, issues in analysis, electronic data, data sharing and international trials. This book is intended for the clinical researcher who is interested in designing a clinical trial and developing a protocol. It is also of value to researchers and practitioners who must critically evaluate the literature of published clinical trials and assess the merits of each trial and the implications for the care and treatment of patients. The authors use numerous examples of published clinical trials to illustrate the fundamentals. The text is organized sequentially from defining the question to trial closeout. One chapter is devoted to each of the critical areas to aid the clinical trial researcher. These areas include pre-specifying the scientific questions to be tested and appropriate outcome measures, determining the organizational structure, estimating an adequate sample size, specifying the randomization procedure, implementing the intervention and visit schedules for participant evaluation, establishing an interim data and safety monitoring plan, detailing the final analysis plan and reporting the trial results according to the pre-specified objectives. Although a basic introductory statistics course is helpful in maximizing the benefit of this book, a researcher or practitioner with limited statistical background would still find most if not all the chapters understandable and helpful. While the technical material has been kept to a minimum, the statistician may still find the principles and fundamentals presented in this text useful.

Download and read online Fundamentals of Family Medicine in PDF and EPUB Fundamentals of Family Medicine, Third Edition, describes the current approach to common problems in family practice. The book tells how family physicians provide high-quality, comprehensive, and ongoing health care for patients and families, based on current evidence and time-tested methods in clinical practice. Clinical scenarios that include case studies and questions for group discussion reinforce the book's clinical topics. The clinical scenarios all concern members of the Nelson family- a multigenerational extended family whose members visit the family physician with a variety of health concerns and whose dynamics evolve from chapter to chapter. The discussion questions allow the group to consider both the biomedical and psychosocial aspects of problems such as headache, obstructive airway disease, diabetes mellitus, athletic injuries, domestic violence, care of the dying patient, and the family physicians's role in dealing with terrorist events. The book is intended to be a reference source for the care of diseases family physicians are likely to see and as the course textbook for medical students in family medicine clerkships in medical school. This book will help health professionals provide up-to-date care for their patients, and will allow students to view clinical issues through the eyes of the family physician. Fundamentals of Family Medicine, Third Edition, ideally is used as a companion to Family Medicine: Principles and Practice, Sixth Edition, edited by Robert B. Taylor et al.

Download and read online Lecture Notes Clinical Medicine in PDF and EPUB Lecture Notes on Clinical Medicine has a long-standing reputation for excellence and is a must-have in the run-up to final examinations and throughout the clinical years. It offers a concise summary of the essential information needed for practising clinical medicine. The book is divided into two sections: Part 1 focuses on the clinical examination of each body system, and Part 2 summarises the core knowledge required for the understanding of specific diseases relevant to each body system. The key to the book's success lies in the first part which is structured and styled very much in the manner of a manual on techniques of physical examination. The book helps the examination candidates carry out an examiner's request to perform a specific examination and hence is an excellent preparation tool for OSCEs. Description of the clinical approach is built around the questions most commonly asked and is designed to get medical students to work systematically as if they have been practising medicine for years. The second part of the book is a short textbook of medicine: a summary of basic clinical facts, organised by body system, and under the usual headings of clinical presentation, investigation and management.

Download and read online Fundamentals of Digital Imaging in Medicine in PDF and EPUB In general, image processing texts are intended for students of engineering and computer science, and there is little written at all on the specific requirements of medical image processing. Students of medical radiation science (Diagnostic radiography, Nuclear medicine, Radiation therapy) usually have minimal mathematical and computer science training and find the available texts incomprehensible. A text that explains the principles of image processing in minimally-mathematical language is needed for these students. Contrary to the claims of some textbook authors, the vast majority of technologists that process images do not need to understand the mathematics involved, but would nevertheless benefit from a thorough understanding of the general process.

Download and read online Fundamentals of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine in PDF and EPUB "Fundamentals of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine" provides a complete overview of the state of the art in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Tissue engineering has grown tremendously during the past decade. Advances in genetic medicine and stem cell technology have significantly improved the potential to influence cell and tissue performance, and have recently expanded the field towards regenerative medicine. In recent years a number of approaches have been used routinely in daily clinical practice, others have been introduced in clinical studies, and multitudes are in the preclinical testing phase. Because of these developments, there is a need to provide comprehensive and detailed information for researchers and clinicians on this rapidly expanding field. This book offers, in a single volume, the prerequisites of a comprehensive understanding of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The book is conceptualized according to a didactic approach (general aspects: social, economic, and ethical considerations; basic biological aspects of regenerative medicine: stem cell medicine, biomolecules, genetic engineering; classic methods of tissue engineering: cell, tissue, organ culture; biotechnological issues: scaffolds; bioreactors, laboratory work; and an extended medical discipline oriented approach: review of clinical use in the various medical specialties). The content of the book, written in 68 chapters by the world’s leading research and clinical specialists in their discipline, represents therefore the recent intellect, experience, and state of this bio-medical field.
